Many of you are no doubt aware that the 2020 North American Festival of Wales was scheduled to be held in Philadelphia from 3-6 September. It was the first time the event would return to the city since 1976. Like all large gatherings, the festival was cancelled due to the Covid crisis. For many, Labor Day weekend just wouldn’t be the same without gathering with their Welsh friends and family and enjoying a program-packed weekend. The Welsh North American Association has organised a virtual festival which will launch on 4 September and will be available on-demand on the website until 30 September. 

The extensive program includes mini-concerts, messages from friends and supporters, a mini-lecture series sponsored by the Welsh government, the winners of th new Eisteddfod poetry competition, Cinema Wales and of course, a tribute to the gymanfa ganu! While not the same as meeting in person, organisers are hopeful that this new platform will reach a broader audience and allow many to experience elements of what a typical festival would be like.
